Fruit Snacks: Healthy or Harmful?

Even though Fruit snacks can be a healthy snack and quite convenient; they are very hard on our teeth. The stickier they are the worse they are for teeth. Certain candy: such as Laffy Taffy, Skittles, Caramels and more are sticky and gooey and stay into the grooves of the back teeth. Unfortunately fruit leathers, fruit snack, fruit roll-ups and fruit gummies also get stuck into the deep grooves of the back molars. Even those snacks made from natural fruit have natural sugar which can lead to cavities if they become embedded into the teeth for too long. And once that fruit snack is stuck in the molars it can be near impossible to get out every last bit if the grooves are very deep, even with good brushing. Therefore, we recommend limiting the intake of fruit snacks, fruit roll-ups or fruit gummies and substituting healthier options such as real fruit, veggies, cheese and crackers as they are much better for our teeth.
